Panpan Yang is a lecturer (UK equivalent of assistant professor) at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London in both Department of the History of Art and Archaeology and the Centre for Creative Industries, Media and Screen Studies. She received her Ph.D. degree from the University of Chicago. Her first book project reanimates the history of Chinese animation from the 1920s to the present. Concurrently, she is pursuing a second book project on the calligraphic imagination in contemporary Chinese art and emergent media.

She is broadly interested in the relations between different art forms, questions of cultural flows, and the digital humanities.

Outside of academia, she explores creative possibilities in poetry, design, and animation.
