Panpan is a PhD student in the joint program in Cinema and Media Studies and East Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago. She received her MA in Cinema Studies from Tisch School of the Arts, NYU and BA in Film Production and Dual Degree in Philosophy from Peking University.
Her research interests center on how cinema foregrounds the meetings or missed encounters between Chinese and Western aesthetics. Along this line, she has been writing on some unique genres in Chinese cinemas, such as ink animation, Teochew opera film, and the Wenyi picture.
Outside of academia, she explores creative possibilities in poetry, design, and animation.
