Panpan Yang is a lecturer (equiv. assistant professor) in the Arts and Visual Cultures of Modern China at SOAS University of London. She received her Ph.D. degree from the University of Chicago. Her first book project reanimates the history of Chinese animation from the 1920s to the present. Concurrently, she is pursuing a second book project on the calligraphic imagination in contemporary Chinese art and emergent media.
She is broadly interested in the relations between different art forms, questions of cultural flows, and the digital humanities.
Outside of academia, she explores creative possibilities in poetry, design, and animation.
