Panpan Yang 楊槃槃 is currently an Assistant Professor in the arts and visual cultures of modern China at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. Her first academic book Animation Thinks: A Story of Media Entanglements in China (University of California Press, 2026) examines how animation thinks – not "thinks about" or "thinks through" – time and space to a degree unimaginable in other media forms. She proposes a form of trans-spatial thinking to examine contemporary Chinese animation: to trace, document, and explain how the meaning of a work of Chinese animation subtly changes when it moves in and out of the world of the film industry, the contemporary art sphere, and other spaces.
