Panpan Yang 楊槃槃 is currently a Lecturer (UK equivalent of Assistant Professor) in the arts and visual cultures of modern China at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. She received her Ph.D. degree from the University of Chicago. She is completing her first book, which examines how animation thinks – not "thinks about" or "thinks through" – time and space to a degree unimaginable in other art forms.

From 2023 to 2025, Panpan is the Principal Investigator of the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funded research project on calligraphic imagination in contemporary art and emerging media. As part of this project, she co-founded Small Gallery, an experimental art space in North London.
